HeyLo There Frodians!
  • frodusfrodus January 2011

Hello friends! What is happening in land of the Frodians? You guys making music? Anything fun? Here there is lots of Travelers Of Tyme happening and thats about it. Hope to have a Soundlab jam in April and possibly a Cassettes show or two too in the DC/MD area! We shall see!

  • jehujehu January 2011

Can't wait to hear all of the new jams! I was rocking Soundlab 1 just a few days ago...

My band just released our first couple of "demo" tracks that we wrote for a documentary soundtrack: http://mazuroth.bandcamp.com. It was a quick and dirty recording process, just to get something churned out by the deadline that we were given by the director. But it was a good experience figuring some of this stuff out for the first time. We're hoping to have a more polished EP out sometime this summer or fall.

My band is waiting for our 7" to come back from the pressing plant, been making electronic music on my own, reading any books/poems of Billy Childish I can get my mits on. I jammed Conglomerate for the first time in a while yesterday still quite the jam. I'm sure the entire forum would unanimously agree, another Soundlab release would be most excellent!  I'll totally make a rock'n'roll pilgrimage to DC/VA/MD for some Cassettes.

  • Writing lyrics for my band.  Been listening to a lot of SST bands lately, I see a lot of yelling in my future...  Can you yell like Bob Mould over a emo song?  I'll find out soon.  Generally trying to bring the energy level of our performances up.  It's a daunting task.

Jehu-> Dude, I REALLY like this song "a shadow and a threat".

  • jehujehu January 2011

wow, thanks so much Revolution Summer! (RevSum? haha) really appreciate that. good luck with your band as well. any links for listening?

I don't have a band or anything but I just made my girlfriend break up with me and now I've been writing again lately. I'm having gallbladder surgery on Tuesday (25th) and then in about >2 months, I'll be in Iraq.

  • frodusfrodus January 2011

Damn! Yeah- use the writing as a positive outlet! You should get Ableton Live and mess around doing IDM stuff on it, it's pretty easy once you go through the tutorials and you can really jam with your ideas quickly and get in the zone.

  • GlappkontaktGlappkontakt January 2011

Costs way to much I think? I'll check into it because Iraq is going to be really boring as Infantry.

  • Jehu -> My drummer saved a Wu-Tang Clan show (don't ask) so the show's promoter is recording a demo for us.  I should have music in a month or so.  Also, Rev, RevSum, Walt. whatever. :D

Glappkontakt->  Yikes dude!  Good luck tomorrow.  Ableton Lite isn't bad on the budget and you can upgrade later.

  • frodusfrodus January 2011

Yeah, the lite version of Ableton is great— you can get a lot of the basics concepts down and stuff and the tutorials are great! Do it! I guess they are calling it Intro, check it: http://www.ableton.com/live-intro

  • frodusfrodus January 2011

@Jehu— I missed that Bandcamp link, stuff sounds cool... cool moody soundtrack stuff! And to balance RevSum, I like the first track "White Noise"! :D

  • GlappkontaktGlappkontakt January 2011

Surgery is over, I am home, I am not dead and hello Percocets!

  • jehujehu January 2011

@Walt - i know you said not to ask, but that Wu-Tang story sounds like it has crazy/awesome written all over it.

@Shelby, thanks so much for the kind words! i'll definitely post more as we write and record it.

  • GlappkontaktGlappkontakt January 2011

Gotta say I loved the new DC Metro release, Shelby...

  • frodusfrodus January 2011

Hahaha! It was way fun to make! Thanks!

  • It's a pretty rough demo, but here's a track of my band.  It's actually a rework of a song I put on here many moons ago.  Drummer's working on the drum line still, but it's a good snapshot of what we're doing.

  • commonercommoner February 2011

Fun song Walt.  I dig it.

  • sasquatch May 2011

OK I want to share this with the Conglomerate...

Last Saturday I graduated from college, on Sunday I started a band with my friend Annie called Fireflies.  we made costumes with big cardboard wings, antennae, and strapped lamps to our butts.  she played cello, I played guitar, sometimes including electronic beats and sound clips.  we rocked 4 shows in town (Harrisonburg, VA), recorded our album and ended it.  it felt so good to DO IT NOW, play everyday, just go all out and then shut it down so fast.

oh and come on, Frodus' "Fireflies" album was definitely some kind of inspiration here.  we wanted to cover that song as well, but didn't have time.  we wanted to make so much more music but oh well, glow and then go!

here's the link - http://firefliesva.bandcamp.com/ live immediately, Frodians, this is your only chance!

  • mike May 2011

sasquatch, I like that a lot. Thanks for sharing!

  • ditto that last remark... this totally rules

  • sasquatch May 2011

thanks for the kind words :-)

  • frodusfrodus May 2011

What an honor, I'm glad the more odd Frodus beginnings has inspired people to create things, especially something with costumes. That was definitely the spirit back then and if anything it's what kind of re-emerged with The Cassettes for me personally, especially with the Countach record. Just having a good time and going with the flow creatively.

The music sounds great, downloading now! You guys should have a reunion and play Blacksburg, VA at one of the Flannel Gurl Records shows.

  • sasquatch June 2011

yeah buddy!  thanks.  annie was with me at the Cassettes show and since we made that trip a week or two before we made our music I'm sure that was an influence on us as well.  I'm definitely interested in playing in Blacksburg at a Flannel Gurl show and may contact them soon.  we originally wanted to go all out and never play again, but i think we can maintain conceptual continuity by just having short bursts of activity in summerish times of year.  so an august/september reunion is possibly in the works....

thanks for the support Frodians.  keep up the productivity, we'll chat over weak coffee in the break room.

  • frodusfrodus June 2011

sounds excellent! yeah- i like that.. glad to inspire creativity. write the flannel gurl peeps, flannelgurl at gmail dot com. Very nice folk!

See ya at the water cooler. ;)
